Do the children go outside in all weathers?

Yes, the children have free flow access to the garden and can come in and
out as they wish to at all times. The garden doors are always open and we go
out in snow, rain or sunshine. We go on regular walks to the park, shops and
recycle bins weekly. We have boxes for all weather types including hats,
scarves, umbrellas and sunglasses. The under twos also go out side at least
twice a day.

How do the children go to sleep with just two cots and at what times ?

Although we only have two cots we only have six babies in a day. We also
have a Moses basket and sleep mats for the older children. Within the under
twos room we follow each child?s individual routine therefore they are not
all sleeping at the same time, however if this does occur we use the sleep
mats and Moses basket. If children are finding it to noisy to sleep we take
the other children into the garden or upstairs for movement and dance.

Sleep times are calm with the lights down low and calming music playing in
the back ground. There is always a staff member sitting with the children
whilst they are going to sleep and they are monitored every fifteen minutes
whilst sleeping. Each child is given their own clean sheet and blanket daily
for sleep times and they can access the beds at all times.

Are the staff qualified and do they have police checks?

Over half of our team have the relevant child care qualifications and
experience to work with children from three months to five years.

Those who are not qualified are working towards child care qualifications
and all staff go on at least three training courses a year. We have monthly
staff meeting to review training and to keep all staff updated with the
national standards and Ofsted requirements. Once our staff do qualify we
offer them a qualified position within the nursery so we hope to become a
100% qualified team in the future.

All our staff have CRB police checks and no one is ever left alone with the
children. All staff have relevant references carried out before the
beginning of employment.

We do not use agencies, we have a good team of bank staff who come in and
cover the staffs holidays, half days and any sickness. The bank staff know
the children, parents, staff and how the nursery is run and enable staff
absence to be as less stressful and disruptive as possible for every one.

Our staff turn over has been very low and we have our original team of staff
who opened the nursery in April 2006. Although we are not yet fully staffed
we will be recruiting more staff as more children start to attend the
nursery. We currently have six full time staff and seven bank staff.
